To Kill a Mockingbird, playing at the Florissant Civic Center
for one night only on Friday, April 10 at 8 p.m.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The National Players from Olney, Maryland, will present To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em>, a play inspired by Harper Lee\u2019s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, on April 10 at 8 p.m. at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre.<\/p>\n

The play is presented as part of the Florissant Fine Arts Council Applause\/Applause series. Tickets are $28 for adults and $26 for seniors and students. Group rates are available. To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em> was originally published in 1960 and deals with serious societal issues during the 1930s in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama. To Kill a Mockingbird was made into an Academy Award movie in 1962 and the play, adapted by Christopher Sergel, debuted in 1990.<\/p>\n

In the story, a sleepy, southern town confronts difference and justice through the eyes of six-year-old Scout in the heroics of her father, the struggles of her friends and neighbors, and the threat of a bogeyman. On stage, Scout lives through the joys of childhood innocence and the pains of growing up.<\/p>\n

Scout\u2019s father Atticus is a lawyer who is appointed and agrees to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a young white woman. Although Atticus presents a defense that proves Robinson\u2019s innocence, the town\u2019s prejudice seems to weigh heavier on the jury\u2019s final decision.<\/p>\n

The Florissant Fine Arts Council presents the Applause\/Applause series with financial support from our members, the Regional Arts Commission, Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, the Employees Community Fund of Boeing and the City of Florissant.<\/p>\n
