\"Tom<\/a>A Boomer’s Journal<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Couple days before Christmas and all through this place<\/span><\/p>\n

We are anxiously laboring to finish the race.<\/p>\n

The hours of roof-time had not been in vain;<\/p>\n

I managed to finish, in spite of the pain.<\/p>\n

Those lights were all working, much to my surprise,<\/p>\n

I plugged in the last strand and opened my eyes<\/p>\n

To see the old homestead go bright in the dark.<\/p>\n

I sure didn\u2019t want to be like old buddy Clark.<\/p>\n

You know, that guy who\u00a0strung lights to get ready,<\/p>\n

Only to suffer his \u201cdear\u00a0Cousin Eddie\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n

That film is\u00a0a classic, a holiday fave,<\/p>\n

But let me continue with this Yuletide rave.<\/p>\n

Kids stockings are hung by our chimney, it\u2019s true\u2026<\/p>\n

With increasing grandkids, we\u2019ve got quite a few.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s five scattered \u2018round, with one more on the way,<\/p>\n

And one, who calls home Californ-I-A,<\/p>\n

Who\u2019ll experience\u00a0Christmas with sunshine and sand\u2026<\/p>\n

Oh, how I\u2019d love to hold her little hand.<\/p>\n

(Still lots to be\u00a0done, can\u2019t be melancholy,<\/p>\n

Gotta deck all them halls with\u00a0them big boughs of holly.)<\/p>\n

But last night I lay sleeping and heard a loud crash,<\/p>\n

Could that be a raccoon upsetting the trash?<\/p>\n

I glanced at the missus, and she was a-sleeping,<\/p>\n

So on down to the hallway window I went peeping.<\/p>\n

You could scarcely believe what I saw as I viewed\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the heck?\u201d muttered I. \u201cYou must be trippin\u2019, dude!\u201d<\/p>\n

For out on that lawn in a Mustang bright red<\/p>\n

Was an old guy with whiskers and a big old bald head.<\/p>\n

He wore a red sweat suit and black hi-top \u201cChucks\u201d,<\/p>\n

And he looked like some weirdo out getting his yucks.<\/p>\n

He said not a word, but popped open the trunk,<\/p>\n

And the light of the moon, it showed all sorts of junk.<\/p>\n

I had to check out what this old guy was into<\/p>\n

So I pulled on the blinds as I yanked up the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey you, down there, on the yard with the stuff\u2026<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t make me come down there\u2026don\u2019t make me get rough!\u201d<\/p>\n

The fellow just grinned as he turned up my way,<\/p>\n

\u201cTake a chill pill, there, grampa, and do not dismay.<\/p>\n

Why, I\u2019m just the man that you need in a pinch.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll fill up your family room\u2026.every dang inch.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019m too old for chimneys, and it\u2019s too late for playin\u2019,<\/p>\n

So give me a hand, here\u2026You hear what I\u2019m sayin\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

You can guess I was dazed at the sight of this gent,<\/p>\n

But downstairs I stumbled, and outdoors I went.<\/p>\n

He loaded us up with huge piles of great stuff<\/p>\n

Like toys, gifts and clothing\u2026his game was no bluff.<\/p>\n

He handled the big things, which was all right with me,<\/p>\n

Already the cold was aching my knee.<\/p>\n

When at last as the trunk was just emptied all out,<\/p>\n

He gave me a wink, then he let out a shout\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cWooooHoooo!\u201d said the guy as he rose like a star,<\/p>\n

And when he was gone\u2026.. He had left me his car!<\/p>\n

My best Christmas ever? Not really; no way.<\/p>\n

Our best was our first born one past Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

But, guess what, this here one was pretty dang fine.<\/p>\n

Didn\u2019t cost me no nickel, didn\u2019t cost me one dime.<\/p>\n

So if you see me gunnin\u2019 that \u2018Twang\u201d through the streets,<\/p>\n

With as many can fit in them white leather seats,<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll hear me exclaim as I roll down the way<\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Christmas To All\u2026I\u2019ll be back New Years Day!\u201d<\/p>\n
