Over fifty students, grades seven and eight, gathered on July 9 at Hazelwood Central Middle School to learn how to manage a checking account and the importance of saving. <\/p>\n
Neighbors Credit Union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s branch managers Vera Billingsley, Cheryl Ballard, Bridgett Elliott, and Melissa Rakers discussed the importance of savings and how it will affect their financial status now and later on in life. They also discussed the basics of checking accounts and the importance of tracking your spending. <\/p>\n
“It is important to educate the children in our community about the basics of savings and checking. My hopes are that they will think before they spend! To have a good future, they must plan for it,” stated Billingsley.<\/p>\n
“Knowledge is power, and today’s youth are definitely smart enough to take the right steps when given the information and help needed to do so,” explained Billingsley.<\/p>\n
