In honor of National Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Awareness Month, the Alzheimer\u2019s Association is pleased to be hosting the 4th Annual Care & Conquer Education Series in November. The series is the region\u2019s premier education event for people affected by Alzheimer\u2019s disease and other dementias. This educational event will provide education and the latest information on early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, as well as resources and support for caregivers.<\/p>\n
The Care & Conquer Education Series will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Christian Hospital Detrick Center, located at 11133 Dunn Road, St. Louis, MO, 63136. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the program will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch and beverages will be provided at this event. Other events in this series will take place in St. Louis, Rolla, Cape Girardeau, St. Charles, and Fairview Heights, Ill.<\/p>\n
This program is designed for Baby Boomers, caregivers for any stage of Alzheimer\u2019s or anyone interested in learning about the early detection of Alzheimer\u2019s. The education series features world-renowned researchers, a question and answer session with local dementia experts, and many opportunities to connect with others battling the Alzheimer\u2019s\u00a0epidemic.<\/p>\n
The North St. Louis seminar will feature Ann Steffen, Ph.D., from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, who will discuss the latest research findings with particular focus on advances in early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Carol Weir, MSW, MBA, will additionally discuss caregiver concerns, including family communications and coping with\u00a0resistance, denial, and disease progression, as well as tips and resources for being a healthier caregiver.<\/p>\n
Today, five million Americans are living with Alzheimer\u2019s disease. Yet, half of those affected individuals never receive a formal diagnosis. With Alzheimer\u2019s projected to rise exponentially in the years to come, raising awareness and educating community members is important in order to ensure proper care for people living with the disease and their caregivers.<\/p>\n
