The popular senior bus service will continue at least until Nov. 1 in the City of Hazelwood as city officials search for funding to continue the service longer. The bus service was spared from $725,00 in budget cuts for the current fiscal year made during last week\u2019s city council meeting.<\/p>\n
A petition was presented to the council by residents supporting the transpotation service which some residents told the council was absolutely necessary for many seniors living in Hazelwood. Mayor Matt Robinson has been working to obtain financing to continue the bus service that costs about $37,000 annually.<\/p>\n
The city has been forced to cut some services following the defeat of one revenue generating proposition that failed on the Aug. 5th<\/sup> ballot. Some cutbacks approved by the city council Sept. 17 include yard waste and curbside leaf collection, mosquito spraying, some community events, reduced street maintenance and snow plowing and reducing community center hours.<\/p>\n Most budget cuts would be effective Oct. 1, but the bus service was granted at least a one month extension while funding is being sought.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The popular senior bus service will continue at least until Nov. 1 in the City of Hazelwood as city officials search for funding to continue the service longer.
