The Florissant City Council held a public hearing at\u00a0Monday night\u2019s meeting about a new barbecue restaurant in the city. Torin Henderson, Derek Smith and Tracie Smith would like to open Phat Boys barbecue at 300 St. Ferdinand. This is the site that was Goeke\u2019s Produce, then a seafood shop, and has been vacant recently.<\/p>\n
Henderson owns a barbershop on Lindbergh and has been working in barbecue shops for years, he said. He said that while working on the building, he and the Smiths had met several neighbors who were excited about the store.<\/p>\n
The store would be open only for carry-out for lunch and dinner. It would offer several meat dishes and sides. Henderson said they may add tables if they are successful.<\/p>\n
Councilman Keith Schildroth said that the city\u2019s Planning and Zoning Commission had approved the plan. He asked about the barbecue pit. Henderson said it would be similar to what Dierbergs has, putting out very little smoke. There would be a new trash enclosure, and the store would not sell liquor.<\/p>\n
No one spoke in opposition to the restaurant and the\u00a0council held a first reading on the bill that would approve it. Henderson said after the meeting that he would like to open in 20 \u2013 30 days.<\/p>\n
In other action, the council:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Approved a request for a full package liquor license for CVS Pharmacy at 1550 S. New Florissant Rd.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Passed a resolution urging state senators and state\u00a0representatives to sustain Governor Jay Nixon\u2019s veto of several bill dealing with taxes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
