There were artist and craft booths on rue St. Francois, music and Art &amp; Wine event at Korte\u2019s Custom Framing &amp; Antiques.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>By Nichole Richardson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday evening the city kicked\u00a0off its 75th anniversary party to celebrate the 1939 name change from St. Ferdinand to Florissant. The party began at 6 on in Old Town in front of Korte\u2019s Custom Framing and Antiques in the 600 block of rue St. Francois.<\/p>\n<p>This area was chosen because it originally housed the first two City Halls.<\/p>\n<p>The party also served as the first of the \u201cWednesday Night Outs\u201d sponsored by Florissant Old Town Partners during the summer. The starting theme was entitled \u201cArt and Wine\u201d and invited native artists and vendors to show off and sell their works.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12917\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12917\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flovalleynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/75th-birthday-cake-pg-16.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12917 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flovalleynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/75th-birthday-cake-pg-16.jpg?resize=450%2C338\" alt=\"    The 75th anniversary cake served at the anniversary event June 25 in Old Town  was provided by Wedding Wonderland of Florissant.  \" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 450px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 450\/338;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12917\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>The 75th anniversary cake served at the anniversary event June 25 in Old Town was provided by Wedding Wonderland of Florissant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were many different booths\u00a0including handmade jewelry, textiles, taxidermy, woodworking, art, accessories, and spices. Henke\u2019s Bar sold beer and wine reasonable priced to keep customers cool. The crowd was entertained by the band Phat Channel and City Council members, city officials and Mayor Tom Schneideer mingled with residents and local business people as well.<\/p>\n<p>An open letter to the community was read by Major Schneider before he introduced the patriotic and amazingly tasty cake supplied by current Cake Boss contenders, Wedding Wonderland.<\/p>\n<p>Versatile woodworking artist Les Suchman of 5th Day Creations loves bringing his work to festivals. Suchman started his journey in 1978 in Arkansas and ignited his passion for carving during a class he joined and eventually taught.<\/p>\n<p>From there he went to work for Silver\u00a0Dollar City and now sells his treasures at the Chapel House Antique Shop on Washington, among other places. \u201cI have four granddaughters and a grandson and they love the wooden toy cars so much,\u201d Suchman beamed.<\/p>\n<p>Residents delighted at all the vendors and came out for a multitude of reasons. Linda Roggeveen has lived in Old Town Florissant for over 60 years and wanted to share in this proud moment for the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to come out for\u00a0the history of the 75th year and give support. We love that we can walk everywhere and each house is unique; the same families stay generation to generation so you always know something about them,\u201d said Roggeveen.<\/p>\n<p>It was evident that all who\u00a0came to the event had a wonderful time and look forward to 75 more years in Florissant. The anniversary party wrapped up with two Town Hall meetings on Thursday to discuss the future of Florissant.and hear residents comments on current city matters.
