\n On Election Day, St. Louis-area citizens enjoy a simple and convenient voting process. A successful local election requires the work of thousands \u00e2\u20ac\u201d up to 5,000 poll workers are needed to put on an election in St. Louis County alone.<\/p>\n

With high anticipated voter turnout for the upcoming August primary and November presidential election, the need for poll workers is pressing. That is why today, the St. Louis County Board of Elections has launched “At Work for Democracy,” an aggressive new poll worker recruitment program.<\/p>\n

“There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a role for everyone to play in \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcAt Work for Democracy,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122” said director of elections Joe Donahue, St. Louis County Board of Elections. “We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re reaching out to corporations, local organizations, college students, and individuals to serve on the front lines of the democratic process.”<\/p>\n

The “At Work for Democracy” program is designed to involve the entire community in the election process. This week, thousands of direct mail pieces will reach St. Louis County households and businesses, asking for their participation. <\/p>\n

“It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a very important election year, and poll workers are essential to making the local election process happen successfully,” said St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley. “With high voter turnout expected, the need for poll workers is even greater. St. Louis County\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcAt Work for Democracy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 poll worker recruitment program aims to ensure that every polling location is appropriately staffed with trained poll workers.”<\/p>\n

The Board of Elections is also offering a new twist on poll worker service \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the opportunity to raise money for charity. They have proposed to local organizations the idea of pooling poll worker compensation, potentially raising thousands of dollars for one day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s work. <\/p>\n

To make participation easy, the board has launched a new portal on its web site \u00e2\u20ac\u201d www.stlouisco.com\/elections \u00e2\u20ac\u201d which contains online tool kits for individuals and organizations interested in participating in the “At Work for Democracy” program. The resources include a fact sheet, frequently asked questions, a poll worker recruitment form, and other promotional materials.
