With postseason play in the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association just days away Hazelwood (Central) and Lindbergh set sites on carrying some momentum into the playoffs when the two teams meet May 9 (Friday) at 4:30 in a key BLAX Division 2 match, possibly at Hazelwood Northwest Middle School, formerly Hazelwood Junior High, the Hawks\u2019 home field.<\/p>\n

Lindbergh plays their home matches in Sunset Hills at South Technical High School, which is operated by the St. Louis County Special School District. South Tech has only part-time students and has no athletic programs.<\/p>\n

Hazelwood, prior to a May 6 match at Clayton and not including an April 29 match against Wentzville-Holt, has an 8-3 overall record 8-2 in BLAX Division 2. Hazelwood had a seven-match winning streak prior to April 29 and prior to May 6 was coming off a May 1 loss to BLAX Division 2 leader Marquette, a Rockwood District High School, played at Crestview Middle School. Hazelwood\u2019s other league loss was March 15 at Columbia Rock Bridge (Football and Boys Basketball fans know that school\u2019s name too well) and the Hawks opened 2014 March 5 with a 5-4 loss to Parkway West in their only non-conference match..<\/p>\n

Lindbergh, prior to their May 6 showdown for first place in BLAX Division 2 with Marquette at South Tech\u00a0 and not including a scheduled April 3 match with Holt at South Tech, is 10-1, league and overall. Lindbergh\u2019s only loss was April 22 at South Tech as the Flyers fell 6-5 to Fort Zumwalt West. Lindbergh has played only five matches away from South Tech and the Flyers have won all of them.<\/p>\n

In seven reported home matches Hazelwood has won six while in five road matches the Hawks are 3-2. In 11 matches Brendon Kocurek has 72 shots and 35 points including 28 goals, Luke Miener has 36 points on 18 goals and 18 assists, Kenny Sladek has picked up 58 ground balls and Mike Frame has made 75 saves as a net minder,.<\/p>\n

The game may determine seeds for the MSLA playoffs which begin with the first round May 14-18 at the higher-seeded teams sites. Semifinals, May 20, and the Championship match, May 23, will be held in Fenton at the Soccer Park, formerly the Anheuser-Busch Center.<\/p>\n

BASEBALL<\/b> — Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West will likely be the top two seeds, not necessarily in this order, in the upcoming Class Five, District Six Tournament which is to start in just over a week. Hazelwood West, prior to May 5, is 7-3 in the Suburban North Conference, 13-7 overall while Hazelwood Central, also prior to May 5, is 5-3 in the Suburban North, 8-7 overall. Hazelwood Central has a 6-5 home win over Hazelwood West on April 22 and Hazelwood West hosts the rematch May 14.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
