On March 26, while the rest of the Hazelwood School District observed Spring Break, 30 Lawson Elementary students\u2014grades third through fifth, attended a special school session, “Olympic Spring Training,” to help prepare students for the upcoming Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing.<\/p>\n

Principal Dr. Betty Scheller, instructional specialist Julie Mazar, librarian Carolyn Scaia, Lawson teachers Susan Gentry, Danielle Polk, Joe Genenbacher and Chris Tebbe, OASIS reading volunteer Judy Boggs, attended the session.<\/p>\n

Students rotated between curriculum-themed learning stations throughout the morning. Some of the learning stations included reading fluency and mathematics; students were then given a hole-punched card at the end of each completed rotation. Students were also awarded prizes for their effort and positive behavior.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually enjoyed coming to school during my spring break. My teachers really made learning fun. Although I must admit, the \u2018Fuel up!\u2019 snack station was my favorite activity,\u201d said one fourth-grader.<\/p>\n

Parents were also appreciative of the extra-effort made by the school principal and teachers.<\/p>\n
