In response to a recent visit by the State of Missouri\u2019s Department of Agriculture and its Division of Animal Health, the City of Florissant revised its requirement for vaccination of dogs and cats put up for adoption by the Florissant Health Department.<\/p>\n

After a routine visit to Florissant\u2019s dog pound recently in March, representatives of the State\u2019s Division of Animal Health stated that the City would no longer be permitted to give up dogs and cats for adoption prior to any such animals age 4 months or older receiving a rabies vaccination.<\/p>\n

Previously, Florissant\u2019s Health Department allowed people to adopt such dogs or cats with the provision that all necessary rabies vaccinations, spaying and\/or neutering would be accomplished by the new owner within 30 days of the adoption.<\/p>\n

The city has amended its regulations regarding adoption procedures to reflect the State\u2019s Division of Animal Health requirements. Florissant will still require spaying and\/or neutering as stated above. Florissant\u2019s animal facility will use local veterinarians to vaccinate such animals and institute a $40 adoption fee (same as St. Louis County) to help cover the price of the vaccination to adopting families.<\/p>\n
