The American Lung Association will present the seventh annual Fight for Air Climb: Master the Met<\/i>, at the Metropolitan Square building in St. Louis on March 22. This athletic fundraising event will challenge participants to climb the tallest building in downtown St. Louis. Participants may run or walk each one of the 40 flights of stairs, and then enjoy the After Party outside on 6th Street.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe Fight for Air Climb in St. Louis ranks as a top fundraising American Lung Association stairclimb,\u201d said\u00a0Michelle Bernth, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Volunteer Development for the American Lung Association. \u201cLast year, it placed sixth out of more than 60 stairclimbs in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stairclimbs are \u201cvertical marathons\u201d that take participants beyond the average run\/walk event. All participants will have their time calculated through an electronic chip-timing system. Participants can compete as individuals or in teams. Teams will have the ability to start the race together and support one another during the climb. Water stations and rest floors will be available periodically throughout the climb if needed.<\/p>\n

Tony Patrico from 105.7 The Point will be emceeing the event and DJing outside at the After Party on 6th Street. Refreshments from local vendors, including Monty\u2019s Sandwich Company and Square One Brewery and Distillery, will be available to participants and their friends and family at the After Party. \u201cLung Champions\u201d will speak at the After Party as well. This special group of people is made up of participants who have been personally affected by lung disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Fight for Air Climb: Master the Met<\/i> is an incredible opportunity to challenge oneself while showing support for those who are and have battled lung related issues,\u201d said Dennis Purkis, this year\u2019s Fight for Air Climb Chair. \u201cBeyond building awareness and raising needed funds for the local office, topping out 40 flights of stairs, with lungs burning, reminds me how important lung health is for everyone.”<\/p>\n

Through team fundraising, sponsorships and donations, Fight for Air Climb: Master the Met will support the American Lung Association\u2019s fight for air. Proceeds from this event will help support local program services, including Asthma Educator Institute, Better Breathers Clubs, Freedom From Smoking, Freedom From Smoking Online and Lung HelpLine. The American Lung Association in St. Louis has announced a goal of raising $337,000 from this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n
