Something new has been added to this year\u2019s 7th Annual Mayors\u2019 Shamrock Ball, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, at Garden Villas North in Black Jack, to give guests an opportunity to bid for fabulous prizes during the event\u2019s \u201clive\u201d auction.\u00a0 One of the major prizes auctioned off will be a luxury 4-day\/3-night room package to Karisma Hotels\u2019 Eldorado Royale Spa Resort for two adults. This donation is sponsored by Joe Lang Travel at (314) 985-5642.\u00a0 Located in Mexico\u2019s Riviera Maya just south of Cancun, Eldorado Royale was ranked last year as one of the \u201cTop 100\u201d hotels in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine readers.<\/p>\n
Another great prize to bid on will be a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Outing which includes two free tickets to a home game at Busch Stadium, use of an 8-passenger limo provided by JED Limousine Service, and a gift certificate for dinner at Mike Shannon\u2019s Steaks & Seafood Restaurant.\u00a0 In addition, guests can enter raffle drawings for a Treasure Chest of Happiness, which contains an assortment of liquor valued at $500, and a beautiful emerald pendant being donated by Henefer\u2019s Jewelry in Florissant.\u00a0 To qualify for the emerald pendant drawing, guests must buy a plastic ring that blinks for $10 a piece.\u00a0 They must also be present at the event in case they are announced as the winner.<\/p>\n
All proceeds generated by ticket sales, event sponsorships, \u201clive\u201d auction bids, and raffle drawings benefit Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization which provides dignified, meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities.\u00a0 This organization has been a prominent fixture in North County since 1967 when it first opened a facility in the City of Florissant with 15 employees.\u00a0 Today, the workshop serves almost 200 adults with disabilities in a 60,000 square-foot facility based in the City of Hazelwood.<\/p>\n
Event hosts include these elected mayors from four North County communities:\u00a0 Mayor Norman McCourt of Black Jack; Mayor James Knowles, III, of Ferguson; Mayor Tom Schneider of Florissant; and Mayor Matthew Robinson of Hazelwood.\u00a0 They arrive decked out in black tuxedos, top hats, and green ties\/cumberbunds\/sashes to greet everyone at the front door.<\/p>\n

Over the past seven years, the Mayors\u2019 Shamrock Ball has evolved into St. Louis\u2019 premier, formal green tie affair.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of North County\u2019s biggest social charity soir?es of the year where people go to be seen with some of the region\u2019s influential political, business, and civic leaders.\u00a0 This event has received a tremendous amount of support from the local business community over the years and 2014 isn\u2019t any different.<\/p>\n
More than 70 event sponsors have donated money to support Valley Industries for the following sponsorship levels:\u00a0 Event Sponsors ($5,00) – The Delmar Gardens Family and Rotary Club of Florissant License Office; Emerald Sponsors ($2,500) \u2013 AmerenMissouri, Karen McKay, and Karisma Hotels & Spa Resorts\/Joe Lang Travel Agency; Pot of Gold ($1,000) – 22 Sponsors; Leprechaun ($500) \u2013 13 Sponsors; and Shamrock ($250) \u2013 21 Sponsors.<\/p>\n
The elegant dining area at Garden Villas North will be colorfully decorated to create a festive atmosphere for the event.\u00a0 Food stations and ice sculptures will be scattered throughout the room to resemble a cruise ship midnight buffet experience.\u00a0 The following local restaurants and catering services will be participating as food vendors:\u00a0 Catering to You;\u00a0 Helfer\u2019s Pastries & Deli Caf?; Master Events; Mattingly\u2019s Sports Bar & Grill (Florissant); Pasta House; and Starbucks.\u00a0 In addition, Yacovelli\u2019s Restaurant is sponsoring the open bar.<\/p>\n
To entertain the crowd, the popular Bob Kuban Band will be playing lively music all night long, giving guests the chance to dance the night away for a good cause.\u00a0 Young dancers from the Clark Academy of Irish Dance are scheduled to perform as well to delight the audience with amazing \u201cRiver Dance\u201d style routines.<\/p>\n
Each year, Valley Industries selects two Workers of the Year to be crowned King and Queen of the Shamrock Ball. This year\u2019s winners are Tony Borchardt and Christine Gunn.\u00a0 They will be officially recognized with a crowning ceremony during the event and be given the honor of cutting the Shamrock Ball cake.\u00a0 The runner-ups are Larry Devance and Mary Alice Dorsey.<\/p>\n
