{"id":11571,"date":"2013-11-20T13:22:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T19:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=11571"},"modified":"2013-11-20T13:22:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-20T19:22:00","slug":"center-for-hearing-speech-offers-audiology-at-water-tower-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=11571","title":{"rendered":"Center for Hearing &#038; Speech Offers Audiology at Water Tower Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Grace Hill Health Centers Inc., which operates five health centers and a community health program in St. Louis, now offers audiology services for adults age 60 and over through the Center for Hearing &amp; Speech, a St. Louis-based charity, at the Water Tower Health Center, 4414 North Florissant Avenue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Audiology services are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.\u00a0 Appointments can be made by calling 314-968-4710.\u00a0 A doctor of audiology with the Center for Hearing &amp; Speech is available for audiology services at Water Tower Health Center each Tuesday.\u00a0 Senior residents of north St. Louis and near North County are invited to make appointments for comprehensive auditory testing.<\/p>\n<p>Costs for audiology services and hearing\u00a0aids can be heavily subsidized, with sliding fees based upon financial need for uninsured patients.\u00a0 Missouri Medicaid, Medicare and some private, commercial insurance plans are accepted.\u00a0 Financial scholarships are available for those who qualify.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 260,000 people in the St.\u00a0Louis metropolitan area have some type of hearing loss.\u00a0 More than 28 million Americans suffer from hearing loss, a number expected to double by 2030. Audiology is a clinical service that evaluates and treats most hearing disorders.\u00a0 Audiologists can determine when someone is in need of a hearing aid as well as provide counsel about the benefits and limitations of using a hearing aid.<\/p>\n<p>Audiology services are provided at Grace Hill\u2019s Water Tower Health Center through collaboration with the Center for Hearing &amp; Speech, a St. Louis-based, non-profit organization founded in 1920.\u00a0 The Center\u2019s audiologists and speech\/language pathologists have doctoral or master\u2019s degrees, are state licensed and nationally certified.\u00a0 Each year thousands of people are served by the Center\u2019s dedicated professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Comprehensive\u00a0 audiologic evaluations\u00a0include tympanometry, air and bone conduction pure tone thresholds and speech discrimination testing.\u00a0 The Center for Hearing &amp; Speech provides hearing aids through its financial assistance programs as well as additional hearing aid services such as custom ear-mold impressions for new or existing hearing aids, minor on-site hearing aid repairs and hearing aid programming adjustments.<\/p>\n<p>Grace Hill Health Centers Inc., an agency of Grace Hill, began in 1906 with a small community health and pharmaceutical service.\u00a0 Sister agency Grace Hill Settlement House was founded in 1903 by the Episcopal Diocese to help immigrant families \u201csettle into their new neighborhood\u201d on the near north side of St. Louis.<\/p>\n<p>The Center for Hearing &amp; Speech is a\u00a0501(c)3, non-profit organization and a proud member of the United Way, which provides major funding.\u00a0 The Center\u2019s primary goal is to identify, treat and help St. Louisans with communications disorders by offering speech\/language and audiology services to children and adults, regardless of whether they have insurance and\/or financial resources to afford such care.\u00a0 For additional information call 314-968-4710 or visit www.hearing-speechstlouis.org.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grace Hill Health Centers Inc., which operates five health centers and a community health program in St. Louis, now offers audiology services for adults age 60 and over through the Center for Hearing &amp; Speech, a St. Louis-based charity, at the Water Tower Health Center, 4414 North Florissant Avenue.
