{"id":11324,"date":"2013-10-16T12:00:59","date_gmt":"2013-10-16T18:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=11324"},"modified":"2013-10-16T12:00:59","modified_gmt":"2013-10-16T18:00:59","slug":"dining-divas-get-southern-hospitality-at-pan-dolive-mediterranean-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=11324","title":{"rendered":"Dining Divas Get Southern Hospitality at Pan D\u2019Olive, Mediterranean Restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/dining-divas-get-southern-hospitality-at-pan-dolive-mediterranean-restaurant\/lisa-kampeter-photo-revised-20\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11325\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-11325 lazyload\" title=\"**Lisa Kampeter photo** revised\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flovalleynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Lisa-Kampeter-photo-revised-121x150.jpg?resize=121%2C150\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"150\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 121px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 121\/150;\" \/><\/a>The Dining Divas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>By Lisa Kampeter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through the years of the Dining Diva outings, we\u2019ve learned a few things.\u00a0 Don\u2019t assume when a restaurant advertises happy hour specials that you\u2019ll get to take advantage of them.\u00a0 If you\u2019re sitting at a table in the dining room and not in the bar, you\u2019re exempt.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really understand this concept, but it\u2019s happened to us more than a couple times.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure someone in your group orders drinks.\u00a0 Real drinks.\u00a0 Oh, and desserts.\u00a0 I feel like they automatically develop opinions of us if we\u2019re not interested in drinking.\u00a0 Our waiters tend to be much happier and more attentive when the check total goes up.\u00a0 And that\u2019s annoying.\u00a0 There are biases in the customer service industry.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes bigger doesn\u2019t always mean better.\u00a0 And by this, I mean our group size.\u00a0 Some of our best outings have been more intimate of a size.\u00a0 Years ago, we would consistently have a large group, and I thought I loved it.\u00a0 But I realized years later, that we each get more out of the evenings when we have smaller groups.\u00a0 We can tune into all the conversations.\u00a0 We all get turns to speak.\u00a0 And we can engage more with our waiters.<\/p>\n<p>This past month, we learned something new too.\u00a0 The Dining Divas tried out Pan D\u2019Olive, a Mediterranean restaurant on McCausland.\u00a0 We learned that just because one trendy restaurant fails doesn\u2019t mean another one in the same location is going to.\u00a0 We\u2019re really pulling for this one.<\/p>\n<p>Our attentive waiter from the Lone Star state so patiently pronounced the name of the restaurant with a well-versed Mediterranean accent and then graciously pronounced it again with his Texan twang.\u00a0 He had us at howdy.<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived, the place was somewhat desolate; yet we were seated in a stuffy corner.\u00a0 When we left, business was booming.\u00a0 It seems like we missed out on the experience of the restaurant perhaps by the timing of our dinner and definitely by our placement.<\/p>\n<p>Determined to succeed, our waiter said the owner would be very accommodating when someone in the group suggested having a \u201cshower\u201d there (wedding or baby, to clarify.\u00a0 Not of the bathing type.)\u00a0 Or any type of big group gathering. The restaurant is only open for dinner, but he said they\u2019ve had groups utilize the \u201cparty room\u201d in the basement during off hours.<\/p>\n<p>They have outdoor seating that aesthetically is appealing, as well.\u00a0 As well as a garden in back where they pick ingredients that are used in some of their recipes.<\/p>\n<p>Pan d\u2019olive means olive bread.\u00a0 We loved soaking up olive oil with the tasty filler.\u00a0 But we didn\u2019t fill up too much before our meal.\u00a0 When starting on the green side, the Spinach Salad is a wise choice and enough to share.\u00a0 It included candied walnuts, cranberries, gorgonzola, and pomegranate vinaigrette.\u00a0 We also shared Arancini, fried rice balls.\u00a0 Because so few restaurants offer these, we were excited to try them out.\u00a0 They did not disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>The Tomato and Basil flatbread would have impressed the Retired Diva more had the crust been crispier.\u00a0 It still was a good choice.\u00a0 The Lobster Ravioli with rock shrimp sounded and smelled so good that even the Seafood-Scared Diva considered ordering it.\u00a0 The Italian Diva thought it was magnifico!\u00a0 The Shrimp entr\u00e9e with oregano, garlic, and tomatoes hit the spot for the Health-Conscious Diva.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t make her feel guilty for indulging on the bread and the appetizers.<\/p>\n<p>The atmosphere this night showed that Pan D\u2019Olive is doing well.\u00a0 And the southern hospitality of our waiter shone through.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t even scoff when we didn\u2019t order drinks\u2026or dessert!\u00a0 Now, if only we could have gotten those happy hour prices in the dining room.\u00a0 Some day\u2026maybe the restaurants will
