The Dining Divas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cathy\u2019s Kitchen is\u00a0<\/em>Trip Around the U.S.<\/em><\/p>\n

Usually, it\u2019s all about us, the Dining Divas.\u00a0 This month, it wasn\u2019t about any of us.\u00a0 This month, our small group walked into a new restaurant in Ferguson hoping for a belly full and a few laughs, but we walked out larger than life.\u00a0 And we\u2019re ready to return.<\/p>\n

When I hear \u201croad trip,\u201d I\u2019m ready for an adventure.\u00a0 And Cathy\u2019s Kitchen in Ferguson is just that.\u00a0 It\u2019s a trip and an adventure!\u00a0 A trip down memory lane for Cathy and Jerome Jenkins, the owners.\u00a0 A trip to the South.\u00a0 Colorado.\u00a0 New Mexico.\u00a0 And so on.\u00a0 The menu is based on their adventures.\u00a0 Life is about living, and for once, they were able to slow down and enjoy life and take a two-month journey throughout the states.\u00a0 Little did Cathy know, her culinary curiosity along the way and talent for tastes would turn into her own restaurant some day.<\/p>\n

On her two-month trip, Cathy tried out many dishes, and those that she really enjoyed, she\u2019d ask the cooks how they made them.\u00a0 Often times, they just gave her the recipe.\u00a0\u00a0 It was obvious to us that Cathy\u2019s warm smile and infectious laugh would be hard to resist.\u00a0 No surprise to us that they would be so willing to share their recipes with her.<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s Jerome, her husband.\u00a0 What an inspiration!\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to stop in and hear his story.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I can do it justice.\u00a0 But let me just say this.\u00a0 Honest to goodness hard work, perseverance, and simple kindness truly is rewarded.\u00a0\u00a0 Even if it\u2019s in strange ways.<\/p>\n

Ask him about his dream.\u00a0 And not about his dream to be successful.\u00a0 His dream that he had one night when he was sleeping.\u00a0 I bet you\u2019ll keep a pad and paper by your bed like I do now after hearing what happened to him.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great story.\u00a0 A story about believing and never giving up.\u00a0 Oh, and a little praying.\u00a0 God truly does work in mysterious ways.<\/p>\n

Cathy\u2019s Kitchen is a diner with a twist.\u00a0 You\u2019ll find a hamburger and fries on the menu, like typical diner fare.\u00a0 But Cathy\u2019s burger has a little southwest in it.\u00a0 The New Mexico Burger is served with Muenster cheese, lime, avocado, tomato, and corn chutney.\u00a0 Hungry for a taste of the Windy City?\u00a0 Try out the Chicago Style Vienne Polish Sausage.\u00a0\u00a0 Or how about the very popular Memphis Style Gumbo?\u00a0 The menu is broken out by states and cities.\u00a0 There are so many tempting choices<\/p>\n

Cathy\u2019s Pastry Chef Cortez is fantastic.\u00a0 This big, high school football player-type does not look like your average pastry chef.\u00a0 And when he showed up at Cathy\u2019s restaurant one day and asked her to hire him, she made him prove himself on the spot.\u00a0\u00a0 She gave him her dessert recipe book, sent him to the kitchen, and told him to make a Dutch Apple Pie.\u00a0 To her surprise, it was perfect!\u00a0 But get there soon.\u00a0 Cortez is leaving for culinary school.\u00a0 Not sure if Cortez made the cookies we tried that night, but they were delicious.<\/p>\n

For once, I was thrilled the Divas group was small this night.\u00a0 We were so pleased that Cathy and Jerome visited with us at our table.\u00a0 With a larger group, that may not have been the case.\u00a0 In all my Dining Divas outings, I doubt I\u2019ve felt so strongly about wanting to see a place succeed.\u00a0 They really deserve it.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for those of us in North County, we don\u2019t have to take a long trip to enjoy Cathy\u2019s Kitchen.\u00a0 Stop by and meet them.\u00a0 You will love them and the food.\u00a0\u00a0 And more than likely, you\u2019ll then rush home to your dreams.<\/p>\n
