{"id":10889,"date":"2013-08-07T09:28:34","date_gmt":"2013-08-07T15:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=10889"},"modified":"2013-08-07T09:28:34","modified_gmt":"2013-08-07T15:28:34","slug":"voters-in-the-the-ferguson-florissant-school-district-tuesday-reject-a-75-cent-tax-levy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=10889","title":{"rendered":"Voters in the the Ferguson-Florissant School District Tuesday reject a 75-cent  tax levy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>75-Cent Tax Levy in Ferguson-Florissant Rejected<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Voters in the the Ferguson-Florissant School District Tuesday rejected a 75-cent\u00a0 tax levy that would have\u00a0 enable the district to maintain its programs and services to the community.\u00a0 The levy got about as 42 percent majority.\u00a0 It had been more than 21 years since the district last asked for a tax increase.<\/p>\n<p>The levy had much support from community leaders and\u00a0 organizations,\u00a0 including Mayor Tom Schneider of Florissant, North County, Inc., Greater North County Chamber of Commerce, North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice, and North County Labor. Late opposition came from a group called Citizens Against Proposition A which posted on Facebook\u00a0 that the district \u201ccan now focus on what\u2019s really important and get back to basics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The district will open classes on Monday, Aug. 12 and are expecting \u00a0425 student transfers\u00a0 and funding from the Rivcrview Gardens\u00a0 and Normandy School Districts.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Proposition A,\u00a0 the levy\u00a0 proposed a\u00a0 75-cent tax increase per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation on residential and commercial real estate property and on personal property.\u00a0 A home valued at $100,000 would have\u00a0 had a tax increase of approximately $11.86 per month.<\/p>\n<p>School district\u00a0 officials contend the levy was needed to replace money that has been lost due to Boeing\u2019s assessment challenge, decreased state and local funding, increasing health care costs, and declining assessed valuations for residential and
