The following are programs offered by SSM DePaul\u00a0 Health Center for the month of July.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Stroke Screening and Discussion<\/strong>. Saturday, July 20. Screenings by appt.: 8:30 \u2013 10 a.m. & 11 a.m. \u2013 12:30 p.m.\u00a0Presentation with Dr. Amer Alshekhlee: 10 a.m., May Center. Stroke \u2013 or \u201cbrain attack\u201d \u2013 is the No. 1 cause of serious, long-term disability and the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. Find out what you can do to protect yourself from stroke. Screening includes blood pressure, carotid ultrasound (non-invasive test of blood flow in the neck arteries), cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL & triglycerides \u2013 fasting preferred), blood sugar (glucose), consultation with a stroke nurse specialist. Fee for the screening is $20, but the presentation is FREE. To register, call 314-SSM-DOCS (776-3627).<\/p>\n

AARP Driver Safety Program.<\/strong> Tuesday, July 30, 9 a.m. \u2013 1 p.m. A unique classroom course to refresh existing driving skills and develop safe driving techniques for drivers 50 years old and older. No written driving test. $12 for AARP members (please bring AARP card to class) and $14 for non-members. To register, call 314-SSM-DOCS (776-3627)<\/p>\n

Stroke Survivor\u2019s Network.<\/strong> Wednesday, July 10, 2:30 \u2013 4 p.m. SSM Rehab Hospital Dining Room. A presentation and educational session for stroke survivors and their family members or caregivers. Call Chris Gonzalez at 447-9644for more information.<\/p>\n

Health Management Resourses (HMR) Program Orientation<\/strong>. Sharing Losses Through Bereavement. <\/strong>Monday, July 1 and 15, 1:00 \u2013 2:30 p.m. SSM Home Care & Hospice, 1187 Corporate Lake Drive. For families and friends who want to help understanding and coping with the death of a loved one. Sharing Losses provides a supportive group setting in which to discuss the process of grief, to identify and to cope with emotions. Regularly held the first and third Mondays of the month.
