A staged reading of King John by William Shakespeare will take place at the Florissant City Hall in the Council Chambers Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. This event is free to everyone attending.<\/p>\n

Peter Banholzer, a Florissant resident who has directed plays academically and professionally, will be producing the play.<\/p>\n

Banholzer approached Mayor Tom Schneider with the idea of doing the play at City Hall to help celebrate the Shakespeare Festival in St. Louis, Shake38. There will be a Shakespeare marathon of 38 plays that takes place all over St. Louis, from Friday, April 19, through the Bard\u2019s Birthday, Tuesday, April 23. King John is a historical play about King John of England’s reign and his battles with France. The story of two lands embroiled in prickly diplomatic negotiations, which often gives way to open warfare, draws parallels to timeless themes of power, family feuding, social upheaval, and a mother’s determination to protect her child. This will be presented as a contemporary staged reading.<\/p>\n
